What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website asks your browser to store. They let the site remember things as you move between pages, such as the fact that you are signed in. This policy explains the cookies Energy Jobs Board uses and why. It forms part of our privacy policy.
The cookies we use
We keep cookies to a minimum. Every cookie we set is strictly necessary for part of the site to work.
| Name | What it does | Who gets it | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| EJBSESS | Keeps you signed in as you move between pages, and protects forms by checking that they were sent from our site | Members who sign in, and visitors using some forms | Until you close your browser |
| ejbh | Set by a small piece of our JavaScript to show that a form is being sent from a real web browser rather than a spam robot | Visitors with JavaScript turned on | Until you close your browser |
| EJBADMIN | Keeps site administrators signed in to the administration area | Site administrators only | Until you close your browser |
| ejb_adm | Lets the public site recognise a signed-in administrator, so that their own visits are left out of our statistics | Site administrators only | Up to 12 hours |
No analytics or advertising cookies
We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies or tracking pixels, and we do not let advertising networks place cookies through our site. Our website statistics are worked out by our own server from ordinary page requests, without setting cookies. Our privacy policy explains what those statistics record and how long we keep them.
Why we do not ask for consent
The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations allow a website to set cookies without asking for consent when they are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested, such as signing in or sending a form securely. All of our own cookies fall into that category, which is why we do not show a cookie banner.
Maps from OpenStreetMap
Our location pages include a map embedded from OpenStreetMap. The map is loaded from OpenStreetMap's servers, which receive your IP address and browser details and may set or read their own cookies or similar data. This is controlled by the OpenStreetMap Foundation under its own policies, not by us. If you prefer, you can block content from openstreetmap.org in your browser, and the rest of the page will still work.
Managing cookies
Most browsers let you see, block and delete cookies in their settings. If you block our cookies, you will not be able to sign in, and forms such as the contact form and job applications will not send. Our own cookies are designed to expire when you close your browser (or after 12 hours for the administrator cookie), although some browsers keep session cookies when they are set to restore your previous session.
