Terms of use
The rules for using Energy Jobs Board as a candidate, employer or recruitment agency, including adverts, candidate data, credits and our responsibilities.
Last updated 25 October 2026
About these terms
These terms of use apply to everyone who uses Energy Jobs Board, the UK energy-sector job board run by Energy Jobs Board. In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Energy Jobs Board, and "you" means anyone using the site, as a visitor, a candidate or someone acting for an employer or recruitment agency.
By using the site or creating an account, you agree to these terms. If you register on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have its authority to accept them, and they bind that organisation too. Please also read our privacy policy, which explains how we handle personal data.
Who can use the site
You must be at least 16 to create an account. Candidate accounts are for individuals looking for work. Employer accounts are for genuine employers and recruitment agencies hiring for roles in, or connected to, the energy sector.
We approve employer and agency accounts before they can publish adverts or search candidate profiles, and we may ask for information to confirm that an organisation is genuine. We may refuse, suspend or close any account, for example if we believe it breaks these terms or puts other users at risk.
Your account and security
- Give accurate details when you register and keep them up to date.
- Keep your password private and do not share your sign-in details, including with colleagues.
- You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
- We may ask you to confirm your email address or reset your password to protect your account.
Candidates
If you use Energy Jobs Board as a candidate, you agree that:
- the information in your profile, CV and applications is accurate, honest and about you, including your qualifications, certificates and work history
- you will only upload documents you have the right to share, and they will not contain viruses or harmful code
- you will only apply for roles you are genuinely interested in
Using the site is free for candidates. You decide whether approved employers can find your profile, and you can hide it or delete your account at any time. We do not guarantee that you will receive interviews or job offers. Recruitment decisions, job offers and employment terms are matters between you and the employer.
Employers and recruitment agencies
Genuine vacancies
Every advert must be for a real, current vacancy that you are authorised to recruit for. Recruitment agencies must have their client's agreement to advertise the role. Adverts must describe the job accurately, including its title, location, employment type and, where given, pay.
You must not use adverts to collect CVs for roles that do not exist, to promote other services or to advertise schemes that charge candidates. UK law generally prohibits employment agencies and employment businesses from charging candidates a fee for finding them work.
Lawful, non-discriminatory adverts
Adverts must comply with the law, including the Equality Act 2010. They must not discriminate, directly or indirectly, because of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, unless a lawful exception applies, such as a genuine occupational requirement. Avoid wording such as "young and energetic" or "native English speaker". Requirements such as security vetting, a driving licence or the right to work in the UK should be stated where they genuinely apply.
Right to work and other checks
You are responsible for your own recruitment checks. That includes the right to work checks that UK law requires employers to carry out before employment starts, as well as references, qualifications, certificates, medicals and any security vetting. We do not verify candidates' identity, qualifications or right to work, and a profile on Energy Jobs Board is not evidence of any of these.
Using candidate data
When you receive a candidate's application or download a CV, you become a controller of that personal data and must comply with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. In particular, you must:
- use candidate data only to recruit for genuine vacancies, and only contact candidates about relevant roles
- not sell, rent, share or pass candidate data to anyone else, except that an agency may send a candidate's details to a client for a specific vacancy with the candidate's agreement
- not add candidates to marketing lists or use their details for anything unrelated to recruitment
- keep the data secure and delete it when you no longer need it
- deal with candidates' requests about their data as the law requires
Candidate profiles and CVs are available only to approved employers with database access, and every view and download is logged and visible to the candidate. Do not share your access with any other organisation. We may suspend database access, or close your account, if we believe candidate data has been misused.
Checking, editing and rejecting adverts
Every advert is checked by our team before it goes live. We may edit an advert to correct formatting, spelling or category, or to remove content that breaks these terms, and we will contact you if a change would affect its meaning. We may also ask you to make changes, reject an advert, or remove one that is already live, for example if it appears misleading, discriminatory or not to be a genuine vacancy, or if we receive a complaint about it. We will usually explain our reasons.
Adverts run for 30 days, or until the closing date if that comes sooner. Expired and closed adverts stop accepting applications. If we reject an advert before it goes live, the credit used for it is returned to your account.
Credits, packages and orders
Our current packages and prices are shown on the pricing page. They are introductory and may change, but a change will not affect an order we have already confirmed.
- Orders. Placing an order through your dashboard is a request. A contract is formed only when we confirm the order. For now, we then arrange payment with you directly and add the credits or access to your account once payment is complete. Online card payment will be added later.
- Credits. A standard credit publishes one standard advert, and a featured credit publishes one featured advert, each for its normal run. If credits have an expiry date, it is stated when they are added and shown in your dashboard, and any unused credits lapse on that date. Credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred to another organisation.
- Founding employers. A small number of employers are invited, or can apply, to advertise free using complimentary credits. Complimentary credits are given at our discretion, may carry conditions or an expiry date, and can be changed or withdrawn at any time. If you hold both complimentary and paid credits, complimentary credits are used first.
- Candidate database access. Access is provided per month and ends at the end of the period paid for unless it is renewed. Any complimentary access is also at our discretion.
- Removed adverts. If we remove a live advert because it breaks these terms, we do not have to return the credit.
Acceptable use
You must not:
- scrape, copy or harvest jobs, profiles or other content from the site using robots, scripts or other automated means, or build a database from it
- send spam or unsolicited messages, or use contact details found on the site for marketing
- try to get around our security, access accounts or data that are not yours, or test the site for vulnerabilities without our written permission
- upload viruses or harmful code, or do anything that disrupts or overloads the site
- impersonate another person or organisation, or give false information
- post content that is unlawful, defamatory, offensive or discriminatory, or that infringes anyone else's rights
- advertise other job boards, resell our services or collect candidates for a competing service
Your content
You keep ownership of the content you add, such as adverts, company profiles, logos, candidate profiles and CVs. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to host, copy, format and display that content as needed to run Energy Jobs Board, in line with our privacy policy and your privacy settings. For employers, this includes showing adverts, company names and logos publicly, including in search engines' job listings and in our own promotion of the site. You confirm that you have the right to give us this permission.
Intellectual property
The site's design, text, graphics, logo and software belong to us or our licensors. You may view and print pages for your own use and share links to adverts and articles. You must not copy, republish or sell any part of the site without our written permission.
Our role and responsibility
Energy Jobs Board is a platform that lets employers and agencies advertise jobs and lets candidates find and apply for them. We are not the employer, and we are not a party to any recruitment process, job offer or contract of employment between you and another user. We check adverts and approve employer accounts, but we cannot guarantee that every advert, profile or piece of information on the site is accurate, complete or lawful, and we do not guarantee any particular result from using it.
We aim to keep the site available and secure, but we do not promise that it will always be available or free from errors, and we may change, suspend or withdraw any part of it. Links to other websites are provided for information only, and we are not responsible for their content.
Limits on our liability
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
If you use the site for business, we are not liable for loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill or opportunity, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to a business user in connection with the site in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 and the amount you paid us in that period.
If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, and nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
We are not responsible for what other users do or fail to do, including recruitment decisions, the content of adverts or how an employer uses candidate data it has received.
Suspending and closing accounts
You can ask us to close your account at any time, and candidates can delete their account from their dashboard. We may suspend or close an account, remove content or withdraw candidate database access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if we reasonably believe it is needed to protect candidates, employers or the site. Parts of these terms that are meant to continue, such as those on candidate data, liability and governing law, will still apply after an account closes.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes to our services or to the law. The date at the top of this page shows when they were last changed. If a change materially affects registered users, we will tell you by email or on the site before it takes effect. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer living in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
